If you have, during your recordings, a background noise that is almost inaudible while you speak, but totally annoying during the silent parts of your audio, then you might like Noise gate. It's a plugin for audacity that silences everything that is under a volume that you can set. forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=29867&p=84824#p84824It's pretty usefull to get rid of your computers cooler noise (for example). Just remember that it will not get rid of the noise in the sections where you speak. While you speak it will still be in the background. To remove those, you might want to use the Audacity "White noise reduction". But be careful with that, because in some cases your voice will sound like it's been fired out of a phaser afterwards.
